Rafal Milach

About the workshop

Long Story Short: Concept to Concrete

This is an exciting opportunity to study with Rafal Milach, a rising star in the field of new documentary photography, which he approaches with the sensibility of a visual artist. Rafal, who has published books and critical publications on social issues and state control, will guide you in exploring how to structure a visual narrative, how to make it relevant in a contemporary context, and whether the image itself or what surrounds it is more important.

Workshop participants will analyze their projects using a series of practical crash tests, including editing, storytelling, and locating the work in a broader context. Together, we’ll discuss how the form of presentation determines the ways in which the project is read and which visual and non-visual elements help or hinder getting to the heart of the idea.

Design will also figure prominently, with graphic designer Anna Nalecka Milach from Tapir Book Design joining Rafal for the workshop.
